Digital Reconstruction and VFX Compositing of a Lighthouse Scene
Using advanced camera tracking techniques, this project accurately integrated a high-fidelity PBR lighthouse model into aerial footage, while environmental reprojection techniques were used to recreate realistic dynamic ocean reflections. We completely replaced the low-detail architecture and overexposed sky from the original footage, and combined multi-light compositing workflows with ACES industry-standard color management to rebuild the image using teal-and-orange grade, greatly enriching the original footage to be more cinematic.
Throughout production, extensive attention was given to secondary motion and environmental interaction details. The weather vane on the top of the lighthouse was animated with wind-driven rotational movement, while the distant sailboat was designed to rise and fall naturally with the ocean waves. These subtle but essential details effectively removed the static feel typical of virtual assets, allowing the CG elements to integrate convincingly into the live-action environment and hold up under detailed examination.
